Santa Ana’s Chavez Will Try to Win State Welterweight Title Tonight
Ernie Chavez of Santa Ana will fight for the vacant California welterweight title tonight in the main event of the monthly boxing program at the Irvine Marriott.
Chavez (12-0, seven knockouts) takes on Charles Kirk Young (9-2-1) of Los Angeles in the fighters’ second meeting. Chavez won a four-round decision at the Marriott two years ago.
Chavez will be going for his fifth main-event victory of the year at Irvine. In his last fight, he scored an eighth-round knockout of Mario Solorio Sept. 27th at Irvine.
The six-round semi-main event on the final card of the year will feature featherweight Mike Semaza of Villa Park against Martin Gallegos of Bell.
Tickets, priced at $30, $25 and $20, will go on sale at 10 a.m. today in the hotel ballroom.
