Marion Farmer of Los Angeles and the Bel-Air Country Club was elected president of the Southern California Golf Assn., and Jack Kaplan of Los Angeles and the Brentwood Country Club was named secretary.

Glenn Davis, retired special events director of The Los Angeles Times and the Heisman Trophy winner from West Point in 1946, was elected to a first term on the board of directors. Davis resides in La Quinta and is a member of the Avondale Country Club.

Those reelected to the board of directors included Peter James of Pacific Palisades and the Los Angeles Country Club, David Loew of Los Angeles and the Hillcrest Country Club and Jim Vernon of Pacific Palisades and Lakeside Golf Course.

Ryan Jamison of Mar Vista, a center on the Loyola High basketball team, will red-shirt this season at UC Berkeley, according to the Loyola Athletics Booster Club.

Dorothy (Dodo) Cheney of Santa Monica and former UCLA All-American Shannon Gordon Carney of Van Nuys are among the favorites in the Southern California Tennis Assn. masters championships, which will begin Wednesday and end Dec. 9 at the Rancho Bernardo Inn in San Diego. Cheney, who has won 201 amateur national championships, will play in the women’s age 65 bracket, and Carney in the women’s 30 division. Cheney’s daughter, Christine Putnam of Escondido, is one of the top players in the women’s 35 bracket.

John Griffin shot a 36 for nine holes to win the A flight in the Penmar Men’s Golf Club’s November tournament. Other flight winners and their gross scores: Vinnie Heid, B, 34; Jim Pine, C, 38; Fred Hopper, D, 42, and Steve Brom, temporary handicaps, 39.

Ian Rankine won the A flight with a 73 in the club’s 18-hole tournament at Rio Hondo Golf Course. Other flight winners and their gross scores were Lionel Morales, B, 96, and Moe Chavez, temporary handicaps, 81.
