ROUNDUP : Seminoles Win the Battle of Florida, 45-30

Amp Lee rushed for 147 yards and scored three touchdowns and Casey Weldon passed for 325 yards and two scores as No. 8 Florida State blitzed No. 6 Florida, 45-30, Saturday night at Tallahassee, Fla.

Lawrence Dawsey scored on a 76-yard touchdown pass play in the opening minute and set up another score with a 71-yard reception in the fourth quarter. Dawsey caught four passes for 172 yards and finished the season with 65 catches and 999 yards.

Lee scored on runs of 16 and two yards and caught an eight-yard touchdown pass from Weldon, giving the sophomore running back 18 touchdowns.

The Seminoles finished the season 9-2 with five consecutive wins heading into the Blockbuster Bowl against Penn State on Dec. 28.

Florida State jumped to a 10-0 lead two minutes into the game on its way to a fourth consecutive victory over the Gators, who finished the season 9-2 under first-year Coach Steve Spurrier. They are ineligible for postseason play because of NCAA sanctions.

Georgia Tech 40, Georgia 23--Shawn Jones passed for four touchdowns to lead the second-ranked Yellow Jackets (10-0-1) at Athens, Ga.

Jones also accounted for two two-point conversions as Tech extended its unbeaten streak to 15 games.

Georgia Tech, the only unbeaten team in Division I-A, carries a five-game winning streak into a Jan. 1 Citrus Bowl meeting with No. 19 Nebraska.

Jones, a sophomore, completed 12 passes in a row during one stretch and 15 of 20 in the game for 225 yards as the Yellow Jackets overcame an early 9-0 deficit.

Alabama 16, Auburn 7--The Crimson Tide gained a berth in the Fiesta Bowl and sent Auburn to the Peach Bowl with this victory at Birmingham, Ala.

Robert Jones scored on a one-yard run and Philip Doyle kicked three field goals for the Tide. Doyle, with 78 field goals, is the Southeastern Conference’s all-time leader.

The victory capped a remarkable turnaround for Alabama (7-4, 5-2), which started the season with three consecutive losses.

Alabama defeated Auburn for the first time in five years to earn its 31st bowl trip in the past 32 years. The Fiesta will be Alabama’s 43rd bowl appearance, the most by any team. The Tide will face Louisville (9-1-1).

Auburn, making its 24th bowl trip, will play Indiana (6-4-1) in the Peach Bowl on Dec. 29.
