Share

A young man whose identity remains unknown was killed Sunday night when a train hit him in Moorpark.

The man, who was 17 to 21 years old, was apparently wearing a radio headset when the accident occurred, Ventura County Coroner’s Investigator Mitch Breese said. He died at 9:45 p.m. of multiple injuries, Breese said.

Two young men who were walking by found the body shortly thereafter and hailed Ventura County Sheriff’s Deputy Robert Lang, who was patrolling the area, authorities said. Lang found the body of the Latino male to the right of the northbound tracks near a concrete loading dock on High Street, authorities said. Beer bottles were found next to the body, Breese said.

A preliminary investigation revealed that an Amtrak train had gone by a short time earlier and that its next stop was Santa Barbara, Ventura County Sheriff’s Detective Ernie Montagna said.

The Sheriff’s Department, which had asked the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department to detain the train, found evidence that it had hit someone.

The investigation is continuing, he said. Meanwhile, authorities are asking for the public’s help in identifying the man. He was wearing a black sweat shirt with long sleeves and a black T-shirt with International News printed on it.
