Local : Drunk Driving Suspect Hurts 3
Three people were injured Monday night when a suspected drunk driver being chased by police ran a red light and collided with a car at a North Hollywood intersection, police said.
Mario Pacheco, 58, was placed under arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence and hospitalized at Northridge Hospital Medical Center with a bruised heart, broken ribs and scrapes, police said.
The other driver, 38-year-old Sylvia Flig, suffered extensive facial cuts and was in fair condition Tuesday at Holy Cross Hospital in Mission Hills, a hospital spokeswoman said. Flig’s passenger, 24-year-old Felix Ruiz, was being treated at Northridge Medical Center for a fractured jaw, police said.
Patrol officers saw Pacheco’s Chevrolet Blazer driving erratically shortly before 9:10 p.m. and chased him south on Laurel Canyon Boulevard after he refused to pull over, police said. The Blazer ran a red light at Victory Boulevard and broadsided Flig’s Jeep Cherokee as she made a left turn, police said.
