BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Marauders’ Rider Scores 36 in Loss

Etiene Graves scored with four seconds left to give Riverside College a 99-97 win Wednesday over Antelope Valley in the first round of the Golden West tournament at Golden West College.

Antelope Valley’s Tony Madison, who scored 21 points, had connected on a three-point shot with 11 seconds left to tie the score, 97-97.

J. R. Rider scored a season-high 36 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Antelope Valley, the defending tournament champion. Rider, a 6-foot-5 sophomore, was 15 of 20 from the field and made 14 consecutive field goals.

Valley 70, Mt. San Antonio College 65--Tory Stephens was 12 of 18 from the field and scored 27 points to lead host Valley (6-3) in a nonconference game. BOYS

Notre Dame 57, Verbum Dei 44--G.C. Marcaccini scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and Marcello Anderson-Tellez added 17 points as Notre Dame (4-0) won a first-round game in the Loyola tournament. Earlier in the day, the Knights learned that 6-foot-4 forward Bob DaCorsi would be out for four weeks because of a broken foot.

Village Christian 90, Salesian 87 (OT)--John Brown scored a school-record 46 points and had 22 rebounds to lead Village Christian (2-1) in the consolation bracket of the Faith Baptist tournament.

Poly 60, Canoga Park 51--Nick Aldaba scored a game-high 15 points and Steve McCann added 11 to lead visiting Poly in a Valley Pac-8 Conference opener. GIRLS

North Hollywood 67, Grant 48--Jacinda Sweet scored 18 points and grabbed 14 rebounds and Karma Goodman added 16 points and 10 rebounds for North Hollywood in a Valley Pac-8 conference opener.
