A confrontation between two women who had the same boyfriend ended with one woman shot to death in a Mission Hills house and the other under arrest, Los Angeles police said Thursday.

Rose Reyez, 22, was arrested at her North Hollywood residence and is being held on suspicion of murder in the Wednesday night shooting of Reina Quinones, 20, of Southeast Los Angeles, Detective Al Ferrand said.

Ferrand said Quinones was shot about 8 p.m. in a house in the 10100 block of Bevis Avenue in Mission Hills. Quinones was visiting the owner of the house, Venancio Nevarez, 31, when Reyez entered, became upset at finding Nevarez and Quinones together and opened fire with a handgun, investigators said. Quinones was hit once in the upper body and died at the scene.

Police said both women were romantically involved with Nevarez. After the shooting, Reyez fled from the house, and Nevarez told investigators that he did not see who shot Quinones, Ferrand said. But further investigation led to Quinones’ arrest about 9 a.m. Thursday, he said.
