They Don’t Know How to Pick Their Spots
Do NFL officials really know where to spot the ball? This question came to mind Monday night while watching the Raiders-Lions game on ABC.
The on-field official had spotted the ball approximately one foot from the goal line. After further review, it was ruled a touchdown.
Being a Raider fan, I was glad they got the touchdown. But being a football fan, I was very disappointed. Now whenever my team falls inches short of a first down, or the opposing team makes a first down by the tip of the ball, I will wonder if the ball was spotted correctly.
We all make mistakes, including NFL officials, and instant replay has corrected some bad calls. But it is not good for the game if it makes the officials hesitate before making a call, knowing that it can be reviewed and possibly overruled. Please give the officials back their dignity.
