Driver, 28, Killed as Car Hits Tree and Burns in Simi
A lone driver was killed in Simi Valley early Saturday when he missed a turn on Los Angeles Avenue, struck a tree head-on and was engulfed in flames from his car, police said.
Simi Valley police and coroner’s officials tentatively identified the driver as a 28-year-old Ventura County man and contacted his family, but were withholding the name until an autopsy and comparisons of dental records could be completed today.
Police said the man’s 1973 Volkswagen was traveling west in the 400 block of West Los Angeles Avenue. A Southern Pacific railroad engineer saw the crash at 1:24 a.m. Saturday and called authorities, police said. The driver was dead at the scene.
