The Sidelines : DeBerg Questionable for Sunday After Operation on Little Finger
Kansas City quarterback Steve DeBerg remained hospitalized today for a broken finger and is questionable for the Chiefs’ game Sunday at San Diego, the club said.
DeBerg, having the best season of his career, suffered the injury in the third quarter of Houston’s 27-10 victory over Kansas City on Sunday. In an extremely painful injury, the bone at the tip of the left little finger was broken and exposed to the elements.
“Last night Steve DeBerg had a small pin inserted into the distal phalanx of the fifth finger of his left hand,” Chiefs General Manager Carl Peterson said. “He remains in the hospital to protect against infection. His status for Sunday is questionable at this time.”
DeBerg’s backup is Steve Pelluer, who has not played this season.
“I’ve spoken to Steve this morning and he says, ‘Don’t count me out. I’ll be ready to go in San Diego,’ ” Chiefs Coach Marty Schottenheimer said.
