Anderson’s 40 Help Georgia Tech Beat No. 17 Georgia in 3 Overtimes
Kenny Anderson scored seven of his career-high 40 points in the third overtime and Georgia Tech knocked off No. 17 Georgia, 112-105.
Anderson, who played all 55 minutes, gave the Yellow Jackets (4-3) a lead they never lost when he made a leaning eight-footer to break a 100-100 tie with 2:49 left in the final overtime.
Georgia (6-2) trailed by 16 points after 12 minutes, then saw Georgia Tech tie the score at the end of regulation and the first two extra periods. Matt Geiger, who scored 21 points, hit a free throw with one second left in regulation to tie it, 82-82. After two Georgia timeouts, he missed the second shot.
Brian Domalik’s three-pointer made it 90-90 after one overtime, and Anderson’s 10-footer with two seconds in the second overtime tied it, 98-98.
After Anderson’s go-ahead basket, James Munlyn and Geiger made layups for a 106-100 lead. Anderson hit five of six free throws down the stretch.
Litterial Green scored 31 points and Marshall Wilson had 20 for Georgia, which lost to Georgia Tech for the fifth time in six games.
