Container Vessel Strikes Moored Cruise Ship
A large container vessel that suffered an engine failure while leaving Los Angeles Harbor struck a moored cruise ship Friday night, causing minor damage to both ships, port officials said.
One crewman on the container ship, Zim Iberia, suffered burns when an electrical panel burst into flames and caused the engines to shut off, said U. S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Scott Wasserman. The engine failure occurred as the 693-foot-long ship was turning into the main channel, causing it to drift into the cruise ship Azure Seas, Wasserman said.
