COMMUNITY COLLEGE WOMEN’S BASKETBALL : Sirchia Powers No. 1 Golden West Past Fullerton

Bits Sirchia scored 19 points and Golden West, the state’s top-ranked community college women’s basketball team, beat No. 5 Fullerton, 74-63, in an Orange Empire Conference game Friday at Fullerton.

Sirchia also had nine assists for Golden West, which won its 12th consecutive game.

Golden West (20-1, 2-0) led at the half, 34-30. The teams were tied, 38-38, early in the second half when Golden West went on a 20-4 run to take a 58-42 lead with 10:32 left. Tracy Wolfe had 15 points and 15 rebounds and Jennifer Harney had 13 points for Golden West.

Nicky Durity had 19 and Vicki Evans added 10 for Fullerton (15-4, 1-1).

In other Orange Empire Conference games:

Saddleback 76, Rancho Santiago 56--Erin Schmeneck had a triple-double, compiling 16 points, 15 rebounds and a career-high 10 blocked shots for Saddleback (13-4, 1-1) at home. Schmeneck is a 6-foot freshman center from Dana Hills.

Kristen Okura had 24 points and 10 rebounds as well for Saddleback, which is ranked 12th in the state. Saddleback’s biggest lead was at 60-30 midway in the second half.

Marianne Karp had 12 points and Lauri Sallinger had 12 points and nine rebounds for Rancho Santiago (7-11, 0-2).

Riverside 73, Cypress 54--Bobbie White scored 15 points to lead Riverside (14-5, 1-0) at Cypress. Jackie Boxley scored 17 and Chris Bazzel had 15 points and seven rebounds for Cypress (2-17, 1-1).
