HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL : Mt. Carmel Girls Start Slow Before Routing Orange Glen

Third-ranked Mt. Carmel got off to a sluggish start before dominating Orange Glen, 49-22, and kept pace with first-place Poway in the Palomar League girls’ basketball race Thursday.

The Sundevils led, 17-10, at halftime then broke the game open in the second half behind Jennifer Alley’s 11 points and Kris Grazzini’s 11 rebounds. Mt. Carmel improved to 11-1, 5-1, and held onto second place. Poway was idle. No one reached double figures for Orange Glen, which fell to 0-6.

Other Palomar League games:

Torrey Pines 62, Vista 59--Daphne Brownson had 23 points and Allison Booth 17 for Torrey Pines, which improved to 11-6, 3-3 in league. Allyson Mizoguchi had a game-high 13 rebounds for the Falcons. Alicia Gerken had 28 for Vista, which fell to 9-8, 2-4.

Avocado League

Oceanside 57, Ramona 38--Shemetra Washington had 14 points and Jessica Falcon 10 for the Pirates, which improved to 2-4 in league. Despite Amy Moseley’s 18 rebounds, Ramona fell to 1-12, 0-6.

Metro Conference

Mar Vista 36, Bonita Vista 32--Dawn Houseman led Mar Vista with nine points, while Mary Johenk had 18 for Bonita Vista.

Chula Vista 50, Southwest 42--Jennifer Benitez and Allison Hines scored 14 points apiece for the Spartans and teammate Shawn Gallagher pulled down 31 rebounds. Chula Vista had four three-pointers.

Girls’ Soccer

Palomar League

San Dieguito 4, Poway 0--The Mustangs recorded their 13th shutout of the season as they improved their record to 14-0. Amy Comte had two goals, and teammate Erin Drown scored a goal and had two assists. The only game San Dieguito has allowed a goal this season was the championship of the Baron Tournament in December.
