Moorpark’s Scott Accepts Offer From Pacific

Shambi Scott, a sophomore linebacker from Moorpark College, said Tuesday that he has committed to University of the Pacific.

Scott, a first-team All-Western State Conference Northern Division linebacker, said he also visited Oregon State, Cal State Fullerton and Western Michigan. Scott, 6-foot-3 1/2 and 248 pounds, played for Agoura High under the surname of Huddleston. He said he plans to sign Feb. 6 and enroll in the fall.

Cal State Northridge announced Tuesday that tailback William Harris and offensive tackle Broderick Jenkins have signed letters of intent to play football for the Matadors.

Harris, 6-foot-2, 215 pounds, played for Harbor College last season. Jenkins, 6-4, 265, was a starter at Glendale College two years ago. He sat out last season.

Northridge has signed six junior college transfers and two others are expected to enroll this week.

A Marmonte League girls’ soccer match between Newbury Park and Royal highs, scheduled for Tuesday, was postponed after a Newbury Park junior-varsity player was killed in an automobile accident Saturday evening.

Ann-Marie Allard, 17, was a passenger in a compact car that was being driven along California 126 near the Los Angeles-Ventura county line when the vehicle spun out and collided with another vehicle.

The match has been rescheduled for Feb. 6 at Newbury Park.

The Cal State Northridge women’s basketball game Thursday against Cal State Dominguez Hills has been canceled because CSUN already has played two Division II opponents. As a first-year Division I program, the Matadors are limited to two games against Division II teams.

Football players Chris Thomas and Rob Turner of Ventura College have committed to four-year schools, Coach Dick James said.

Thomas, who played at Ventura High, has accepted a full scholarship from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Thomas, a 6-1, 175-pound sophomore, was first-team All-Northern Division as a wide receiver and kick returner, a first-team J. C. Athletic Bureau All-American returner and an honorable-mention J. C. Grid-Wire all-purpose runner. He caught 33 passes for 381 yards and five touchdowns last season.

Turner, from Ventura High, accepted a full scholarship from Eastern Michigan. Turner, 6-6, 222 pounds, was first-team All-Northern Division and caught 22 passes for 304 yards.
