The Inglewood City Council has approved salary increases of about 47% for itself, the mayor and the city’s two other elected officials.
The pay hikes were approved Tuesday 3 to 1, with Councilman Anthony Scardenzan voting against the raises. The increases will go into effect in April, after council elections.
The mayor and city clerk posts will pay $15,960 annually, up from $10,800. Council members will earn $7,900 a year, up from $5,400. The city treasurer will be paid $3,996 annually, a raise from $2,700.
Under the City Charter, the salary of the mayor may be set at twice that of a council member. Salaries were last raised in 1983.
In addition to their base salaries, council members also receive $1,740 annually for expenses, including telephone, vehicle and other costs incurred while conducting city business, said Assistant City Manager Norm Cravens. The mayor receives $2,880 in yearly expenses, Cravens said.
