An Iraqi wanted for the slaying of one man and the wounding of another at a weekend party near La Mesa surrendered Thursday, a Sheriff’s Department spokesman said Thursday night.

Sheriff’s Sgt. Harry A. Smith said Nadir Jamil Mikhail, 20, surrendered to sheriff’s homicide detectives at the San Ysidro Port of Entry at 5:30 p.m. Apparently, Mikhail had fled to Mexico and his surrender was arranged by his attorney, who was not identified.

Sheriff’s Department officials said Mikhail was taken into custody at the pedestrian crossing leading to the United States without incident. He was booked at San Diego County Jail on a warrant for murder and attempted murder.

Mikhail, an Iraqi who lived in El Cajon, was being sought after several witnesses identified him as the man who fired the shots that killed Robbie Loftis, 19, of Lemon Grove and wounded Charles Hall, 19, a Spring Valley student.

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Robbie Hill said Mikhail had apparently gone to the party in the 11300 block of Explorer Road about 11:50 Saturday night to help expel 30 or 40 uninvited guests.

Another Iraqi, Haytham Allos, also know as Aaytham Allos, 22, is also being sought for questioning because he was seen arriving and leaving the party with Makhail, Hill said. Allos is from the Detroit area.

Investigators Sunday said there appeared to be no connection between the shootings and emotions stirred by war in the Persian Gulf.

Hall was discharged Thursday morning from Sharp Memorial Hospital, where he had been treated for wounds to the right leg and left arm.
