THOUSAND OAKS : Synagogue Target of Vandals Again

Share

A Thousand Oaks synagogue that was defaced in December with anti-Semitic slurs was spray-painted over the weekend with swastikas, a Ventura County sheriff’s official said Tuesday.

Two swastikas and symbols referring to Nazis were painted on the sanctuary doors and an outside wall of Temple Adat Elohim, Lt. Bill Montijo said.

A plastic bottle full of liquid rubbing compound that was set afire was thrown at the temple door but did not cause any damage, he said.

Temple officials believe that the attack occurred between Saturday night and Sunday morning, Montijo said. The graffiti was reported early Sunday to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department by a school director who arrived to teach a class.

Temple Adat Elohim was one of three synagogues in the county that was defaced during Hanukkah last year. Vandals had painted identical slurs linking Jews to Satan on all three temples.
