Pair Held in Robbery, Beating of Woman, 74

Two men have been arrested in connection with the robbery and beating of a 74-year-old Silver Lake woman in a supermarket parking lot last week, police said.

Eileen Brown was struck once in the back of the head just after her purse was snatched outside the Lucky market at 2035 Hillhurst Ave. about 3:15 p.m. Feb. 4, Los Angeles Police Detective James McCann said. Brown remains in critical condition at Kaiser Hospital in Los Feliz.

Police arrested Raymond Duran, 27, and Martin Jimenez, 47, both of Los Angeles.

A witness reported the suspects’ license plate number to the market manager, who notified police. The victim’s purse was found inside the car, McCann said.

Duran was transferred to the San Bernardino detention facility on an outstanding traffic warrant, and is expected to be returned to Los Angeles on Friday. Jimenez is being held at Los Angeles County Jail. Both are being held in lieu of $65,000 bail each pending arraignment later this week.

Each man has been arrested on suspicion of robbery with added allegations of great bodily injury and violence against the aged, McCann said. He said police have been unable to find the person who reported the license number.
