COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Pauley’s 27 Help Cypress Beat Fullerton

Eric Pauley scored 27 points and had 12 rebounds as Cypress defeated Fullerton, 76-62, in an Orange Empire Conference men’s college basketball game Saturday at Cypress.

Brian Kenney scored 18 points and Charles Lockard 12 for Cypress (21-10, 9-3 in conference).

Garry Hunter and Bob Terry each scored 17 points for Fullerton (15-15, 4-8).

In other Orange Empire Conference men’s basketball games:

Rancho Santiago 109, Riverside 72--In the regular-season finale Corie Blount scored a career-high 31 points and Erik Martin added 22 points and 10 rebounds for Rancho Santiago (29-2, 11-1).

Saddleback 85, Orange Coast 77--Saddleback (17-11, 8-4) went 10-0 at home this season with the season-ending victory. Ray Ankton scored 18 points on eight-of-nine shooting for Saddleback. Orange Coast (11-18, 2-10) was led by Rich Hughes’ 21 points off the bench.

In nonconference baseball:

San Diego Mesa 4, Saddleback 3--Trailing 2-0, Mesa scored three unearned runs in the bottom of the fourth. Mesa took a 4-2 lead in the fifth on a triple by Albert Mendiola and a single by Brett Brown. Saddleback scored in the ninth when Buster Nietzke tripled and Rob Nye followed with a single.

In the Bakersfield baseball tournament:

Orange Coast College 13, Mission College 6--Eric Schaff (2-0) went the distance for Orange Coast College (7-2-1) in a third-round game. Dan Redington went four for four with one RBI and Scott Sabbo was four for five with two RBIs for OCC, which trailed, 2-0, when it rallied for six runs in the third inning. The Pirates added five runs in the sixth inning.

In the Casey Stengel baseball tournament:

Rancho Santiago 15, Fresno City 6--Roaul Rodarte had two hits and three RBIs, Sean Ramos had three hits and two RBIs and Wayne Hefft had four hits and four RBIs for host Rancho Santiago.

In the Modesto baseball tournament:

Fullerton 8, Modesto 2--Tom Wilson had two hits, including a bases-empty home run in the eighth inning, for Fullerton (9-4) in a second-round game.

At the Santa Monica men’s swimming relays:

Orange Coast wins--Orange Coast won eight of nine events score 143 points to Bakersfield’s 65. Orange Coast won the 400-yard medley relay in 3:41.76 (Bill Nickel, 1:01.80 in the breaststroke) and the 800 freestyle relay in 7:18.01 (Andreas Roestenberg, 1:45.01 for his leg).

At the Santa Monica women’s swimming relays:

Orange Coast wins--Orange Coast’s 114 points easily topped second-place Golden West’s 72. Orange Coast won the 400 medley relay in 4:22.12 as Mandy Whiteman had a time of 56.41 in her 100-yard leg. Orange Coast won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:46.27 as Christine Williams swam her 50 yards in 25.80 seconds.
