Estancia Leaves Paso Robles in Dust

PASO ROBLES — After trailing at halftime, Estancia went on a 19-0 run in the second half and defeated Paso Robles, 73-41, Tuesday night in the second round of the Southern Section Division III-AA basketball playoffs.
Son Ly scored 11 of his game-high 15 points in the third quarter when Estancia started to pull away.
Estancia outscored Paso Robles, 23-10, in the third to turn a 24-22 halftime deficit into a 45-34 lead.
Estancia scored the final eight points of the third quarter to begin its 19-0 run.
Ly, Mike Haas and Paul McDaniels each sank three-point baskets in the Eagles’ surge and Jeff Hokanson added five points to boost Estancia’s lead to 56-34 with 5 minutes 14 second remaining in the game.
After a Paso Robles (8-16) free throw ended the scoring drought of more than 6 1/2 minutes, Estancia started another run, outscoring the Bearcats 16-5 in the final four minutes.
The Eagles (23-4) advance to Friday’s quarterfinals against Foothill.
