DIVISION III-AA ROUNDUP
Gahesha 62, Troy 39--Gahesha used a tough zone defense and a solid offense at Fullerton to keep Troy from another playoff upset.
Gahesha (16-11) used a quick two-three zone that held Tory to just 18-of-58 shooting (38%). The Warriors (10-15) were zero for 17 from three-point range.
“We got our shots,” Troy Coach T.J. Hardeman said. “They just didn’t go down. They were bigger and quicker than us, and that intimidated us.”
Junior guard Randy Abbott scored 15 points for Troy.
Gahesha opened a 17-8 lead at the end of the first quarter, but Troy closed the gap to 24-18 at halftime. The Giants used an 8-0 run midway in the third quarter to expand their lead from 26-20 to 34-20 with 1:30 left in the third quarter.
Troy, the fourth-place team in the Freeway League, was the last at-large team from Orange County left. Troy upset Savanna, 65-64, Tuesday in overtime.
