A 27-year-old Canyon Country man died early Monday when his van struck a guardrail on the Antelope Valley Freeway and overturned, the California Highway Patrol said.
Ronald L. Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene after he was thrown from his 1987 Chevrolet van near Lost Canyon Road, Officer Wendy Moore said.
Johnson’s passenger, 32-year-old Colette Silapie of Canyon Country, was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital with moderate injuries, Moore said. Silapie was asleep in the back seat when the accident occurred about 3:45 a.m., Moore said.
According to Highway Patrol reports, Johnson was northbound when his van drifted right and struck a guardrail. He then swerved across the highway, hit a bridge railing and turned over. The van landed on its wheels in the center divider.
Neither Johnson nor Silapie were wearing seat belts, Moore said.
