Soccer All-Star Games Tonight at Chapman

Some of the top high school soccer players will be featured in the first Orange County Coaches’ Assn. all-star games, which will be played tonight at Chapman College.

The girls’ game begins at 5 p.m. and the boys’ at 8. The rosters are made up of seniors from schools whose coaches are members of the association.

In the boys’ game, the South will be coached by Sam Buenrostro, who guided Santa Ana to the Southern Section 4-A title. The North will be coached by Ray Smith of Katella.

The players include Armando Orizaba (Katella), Gus Plasencia (Santa Ana), Juan Strutton (Laguna Hills), Martin Wall (Brea-Olinda) and Justin Zayas (Orange). All five were first-team all-county selections.

In the girls’ game, Marina’s Cristin Rossman, Sunset League defensive player of the year and The Times’ first-team all-county goalkeeper, will be in goal for the South. Sunny Hills’ Shannan Brown, The Times’ second-team all-county goalkeeper, will play for the North.

The North team, which will be coached by Kenn Gordon of Sunny Hills, includes first-team all-county selections Lynn Murray of Esperanza and Laura Brun of Los Alamitos, and second-team selections Heather Manzer of Fullerton, Kathy Shortall of Foothill and Stefanie Stucker of La Quinta.

The South, coached by Kerry Krause of El Toro, is headed by Mater Dei’s Diana Awadallah, who was a second-team selection, and Kristen Graul, who played for El Toro, which won the 4-A title.
