Two men wearing nylon stockings over their faces and carrying shotguns robbed a restaurant in Old Town Tuesday night, after forcing customers onto the floor and threatening to shoot them, authorities said.

The men walked into the Brigantine Restaurant at 2444 San Diego Ave. at 11:15 p.m. and ordered everyone to get down on the floor, San Diego police spokesman Bill Robinson said.

“At first it seemed like a joke,” waitress Christine Donnelly said. “But they were serious. We just followed their directions completely, and the whole time we expected to get blown away.”

The men took $700 cash from a register and demanded wallets from the four customers who were in the restaurant at the time, Robinson said. There were also five employees. No one was hurt.

The men wore all black clothing with black combat boots, Donnelly said. They took a wallet from her containing $300 cash.

Both men were in their mid-20s, Robinson said. They were last seen running through the parking lot.
