COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Titans Win on Boyd’s One-Hitter
The Cal State Fullerton softball team won its seventh consecutive game, defeating Kent State, 1-0, in the first round of the Pony tournament Wednesday at Fullerton.
The Titans, 25-7 and seventh-ranked nationally, won the game with two outs in the bottom of the seventh when Joy Tiner doubled and scored on Jill Matyuch’s single.
Tiffany Boyd (14-2), a transfer from UCLA, won her fourth consecutive game, a one-hitter. She struck out a season-high 10.
In nonconference women’s tennis:
Yale 5, Cal State Fullerton 1--Roseann Alva defeated Kari Weiner, 6-2, 6-3, in No. 3 singles for the Titans’ only victory. Alva improved her record to 14-9.
