Oceanside Man Slain in Taco Shop Fight

A 22-year-old man was fatally stabbed Saturday at a fast-food restaurant in Oceanside, police reported.

Matthew Joseph Sullivan of Oceanside got into a fight with a group of men at the restaurant. After the stabbing the men fled in a green Datsun station wagon, investigators said.

The assailants remained at large Saturday afternoon, said a spokeswoman for the Oceanside Police Department.

The slaying occurred at a taco shop in the 1100 block of South Hill Street about 12:45 a.m., police said. Shortly after 1 a.m., Oceanside police responded to a call that an injured man was lying at the corner of Oceanside Boulevard and Ditmar Street. They later determined that Sullivan had been stabbed with an unknown object.

Sullivan was taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, where he died of multiple stab wounds at 1:40 a.m.
