OXNARD : Father, 8 Children Escape House Fire
An Oxnard man and his eight children safely escaped from their Lear Court house after they discovered a fire in the upstairs bedroom early Wednesday morning, authorities said.
The 1 a.m. blaze caused about $35,000 damage to the $300,000 house in the 1800 block of Lear Court and destroyed $20,000 worth of possessions, Fire Investigator Kevin Schroepfer said. He said he did not know the name of the family.
The man’s wife was in a hospital where she recently gave birth, Schroepfer said.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, Schroepfer said. The family received aid from the American Red Cross to stay in a motel, he said.
