NBA ROUNDUP : Jordan Gets 42, Then Rests in 128-94 Win

Michael Jordan didn’t play in the fourth quarter but still matched his season high, scoring 42 points to lead the Chicago Bulls to a 128-94 victory over the New Jersey Nets Thursday night at East Rutherford, N.J.

Jordan, who played only 30 minutes, had 21 in the second quarter, when he scored 12 consecutive Chicago points and 11 in a 15-4 burst that gave the Bulls a 56-44 lead.

Jordan also had 42 points against Golden State on Dec. 27.

The Bulls won for the 10th time in 12 games.

Phoenix 102, Milwaukee 88--Dan Majerle scored seven of his 18 points in a 23-6 third-quarter surge as the Suns won at Phoenix for a club-record 13th victory in March.

Phoenix’s 13-3 record for March bettered the previous mark of 12-3, set by the 1979-80 team.

Tom Chambers had 18 points and 11 rebounds, and Andrew Lang had a season-high 16 points for the Suns.

Houston 112, Atlanta 111--Vernon Maxwell hit a jumper from the top of the key with eight seconds remaining at Atlanta to give the Rockets their 13th victory in a row.

The Rockets, who have the NBA’s longest current winning streak, had blown a 10-point lead in the final eight minutes.

Kenny Smith led the Rockets with 25 points.

Dominique Wilkins scored 28 points, and Kevin Willis had 27 and 17 rebounds for the Hawks.

Charlotte 94, Philadelphia 90--Rex Chapman hit six of Charlotte’s eight free throws in the final 1:20 at Charlotte as the Hornets set a franchise record with 21 victories.

The Hornets recorded 20 victories in their first season and had 19 last season. They also set a club record with their 14th home victory of the season.

The 76ers played without leading scorer Charles Barkley, who was fined $10,000 and suspended for one game by the league for spitting into the stands during a game Tuesday at New Jersey.

Miami 90, Boston 88--Glen Rice made two free throws with 1.9 seconds left at Miami to cap the Heat’s comeback from a 17-point fourth-quarter deficit.

It was Miami’s first victory over the Celtics.

Cleveland 102, Washington 95--Brad Daugherty scored all of his 16 points in the second half as the Cavaliers held off the Bullets at Richfield, Ohio.

Daugherty suffered a sprained right foot in the final minute of the game and was taken to Cleveland Clinic for X-rays.

Golden State 106, New York 104--Mitch Richmond drove the lane for a layup with 3.4 seconds remaining at New York to give the Warriors the victory.

San Antonio 119, Orlando 95--Terry Cummings and Sean Elliott each scored 21 points and David Robinson had 20 as the Spurs routed the Magic at San Antonio for their ninth consecutive victory at home.

Sacramento 116, Utah 96--The Kings scored 46 points in the fourth quarter to knock the visiting Jazz out of first place in the Midwest Division. San Antonio is 46-23, Utah is 46-24, Houston is 45-24.
