COUNTYWIDE : Penalty Assessed on Late Tax Payments
Ventura County property owners who miss the April 10 property tax deadline will have to pay a 10% penalty and a $10 processing fee, a county official said.
Payments must be postmarked by April 10, said Harold S. Pittman, county treasurer.
“The Board of Supervisors approved the $10 for processing the late payments,” he said. “I’m hoping there are not very many of them. We would just like everyone to pay on time.”
Taxpayers may mail payments or take them to the County Government Center at 800 S. Victoria Ave., Ventura.
The tax collector’s office will be open Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to receive payments. Taxpayers also may pay their bill by Visa or MasterCard. Residents may call 805-654-2120 for this service.
Pittman said 16,443 taxpayers missed the deadline last year and paid $939,100 in penalties.
