BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : DODGERS : Griffin Not Worried, Says He Feels Fine

Alfredo Griffin said he didn’t even hear the boos directed at him in the ninth inning Friday. And he said he is not thinking about shortstop-of-the-future Jose Offerman, who began his season in Albuquerque Friday night and can be recalled after 10 days.

“I should have Offerman on my mind for what?” Griffin asked softly. “I don’t think about him. He is not here. Why should I think about somebody who is not here.

“I am playing. I am the shortstop. I am not thinking about him.”

Griffin, who has one error and two hits in his first three games, said that his back feels fine.

“How do I look to you?” he said. “I feel good to me.”

Orel Hershiser threw 85 pitches Friday and said he hopes to be throwing a simulated game in San Diego late next week.

“If everything keeps feeling good, I want to throw off a mound once more in San Francisco (early next week) and then try some hitters,” Hershiser said. “Right now, everything feels good.”

If Hershiser begins making rehabilitation starts after a couple of simulated games, he could be on schedule to return to the roster by mid-May.

The Padres returned left-handed pitcher Steve Rosenberg to their triple-A affiliate in Las Vegas Friday because, much to their embarrassment, they realized he had been recalled before he had spent the mandatory time in the minor leagues. A player who is optioned to the minors must spend at least 10 days before being recalled. Rosenberg had been recalled Thursday night without spending one official day in Las Vegas.

He will be replaced by nonroster pitcher Pat Clements, whose contract was purchased from Las Vegas and therefore is not subject to the rules involving players already on the roster.
