Hoffa Ineligible for Teamster Presidency: A court-appointed elections officer has ruled that James P. Hoffa, son of former Teamsters union President Jimmy Hoffa, is ineligible to run for the presidency of the Teamsters in the union’s December election. Hoffa, a Detroit lawyer, contended that he had been a dues-paying member of the union for more than two decades and was hired in April, 1990, as an administrative assistant in Teamsters Local 283 in Wyandotte, Mich. But elections officer Michael Holland said that was not good enough because the union constitution requires candidates to work as Teamsters for 24 months before nomination. Hoffa vowed to appeal.
