Sport: Swimming

Events: 200 IM, 100 breaststroke

Class: Senior

After a disappointing performance at the U.S. Spring Nationals earlier this month, Ham has returned to high school competition and Saturday dominated the Foothill Swim Games. Ham, who is the defending Southern Section 200-yard individual medley and 100 breaststroke champion, won the 200 IM in 2:06.53 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:06.19 and helped the Fountain Valley 400 and 200 freestyle relay teams to victories. The Barons qualified two relay teams in each of the three relays and their depth helped them win the team championship by 58 points over second-place El Toro. Ham’s performance was crucial in the victory, but Fountain Valley Coach Debbi Kelly said her value also lies in her leadership. “She is a real positive person,” Kelly said. “It’s going to be a real heartbreak to lose her at the end of the season. She’s always there for the team.”

Other top performers:

Shona Baille, who won the 200 IM (2:09.65) and the 100 freestyle (53.85) and was named the swimmer of the meet after helping Mission Viejo to the title of the Mission Viejo Invitational.

Cavetra Mitchell, a Los Alamitos sprinter who set a meet record in winning the 100 meters (12.18) and won the 200 (25.09) at the Orange County championships at Rancho Santiago College.
