Sierra Madre : Building Ban Extended

Share

The City Council on Tuesday extended a moratorium on hillside building for at least six months.

The Planning Commission and a citizen’s committee, the Hillside Management Task Force, are currently reviewing a redrafted version of the city’s stringent hillside development ordinance. The ordinance was adopted in January, 1990, when the City Council learned that an existing moratorium on building had expired.

The council may further extend the current moratorium, which was set to expire May 6, for up to a year for additional community input and environmental assessment, City Administrator James E. McRea said.

The first Planning Commission hearings for the new ordinance may occur as early as this July, McRea added.
