Mike Jackson of the Seattle Mariners had a momentary lapse of control and the Minnesota Twins parlayed his wild pitch and error into a 4-3 victory at Minneapolis.

The Mariners were leading, 3-2, with one out and the bases loaded in the 10th inning when Jackson’s pitch skipped past catcher Dave Valle, allowing Kirby Puckett to score from third. On the play, Jackson could not handle the ankle-high throw back to the plate and Al Newman scored the winning run.

“I was anticipating a bad throw so I just kept running,” said Newman, who entered the game as a pinch-runner in the eighth and stayed in the game as the shortstop. “I knew if I had stopped running I never would have scored.”

Edgar Martinez scored from third base on a wild pitch in the top of the 10th with two out to give the Mariners a short-lived 3-2 lead against reliever Steve Bedrosian. Bedrosian (2-0) survived the inning and picked up the victory.

Milwaukee 9, Texas 1--Greg Vaughn hit two home runs and drove in five runs at Milwaukee as Chris Bosio improved his record in April to 15-4.

Vaughn’s first homer was a three-run shot that highlighted a five-run first inning off Kenny Rogers (0-3).

Bosio (2-2) scattered nine hits and did not give up a run until the ninth when Julio Franco singled with two out and the bases loaded.

Toronto 3, Detroit 2--Jimmy Key pitched seven strong innings at Toronto to improve to 4-0.

The Tigers scored two runs in the sixth on Cecil Fielder’s two-run single, ending Key’s 17-inning shutout streak. Key gave up four hits and two runs.

Duane Ward got the last three outs for his third save.

Joe Carter paced the Blue Jays on offense with a two-run single.
