2 Doctors Indicted: Two doctors have been indicted on federal charges of defrauding medical insurance carriers of $7 million by conducting unnecessary medical tests, fabricating medical histories and listing false diagnoses. Dr. William Kupferschmidt, 48, of Rancho Palos Verdes, appeared in U.S. District Court on charges of 38 counts of mail fraud and one count of conspiracy. Bail was set at $470,000. Dr. Ameer Dixit, 55, also known as Ameer Dikshit, of Laguna Beach, was charged with 42 counts of mail fraud and one count of conspiracy. He was charged last December of the same number of counts and released on $50,000 bond.
