2 Former CSUN Standouts to Play Professional Soccer

Thor Lee and Rick Iversen, former soccer standouts at Cal State Northridge, have signed contracts to play in the American Professional Soccer League.

Lee, who will play with the Salt Lake City Sting, was an NCAA Division II All-American for Northridge in 1986 and ’87 and an All-California Collegiate Athletic Assn. first-team selection from 1985-87. Iversen, a member of the Colorado Foxes, was an All-CCAA first-team selection for Northridge in 1988.

Jeff deLaveaga was selected the most valuable player of the Cal Lutheran men’s basketball team at the postseason awards banquet last week. Hank Hou was selected the best defensive player. Other players honored were Simon O’Donnell (best rebounder), Brannon Hays (most inspirational) and Paul Tapp (most improved).

Rich Corso, water polo coach at Harvard High, will present two lectures on the sport at the World Water Polo Seminar, May 27-June 3 in Olympia, Greece.

Corso will lecture on attacking with multiple defenses and on advanced training of goalkeepers. The seminar is sponsored by the International Olympic Committee.

The Harvard Water Polo Foundation team will seek its fourth consecutive national title in the U.S. Water Polo Men’s Outdoor Nationals on May 3-5 at Cal State Long Beach.

Harvard is 18-0 over the past three seasons of competition at the nationals. The team is coached by Corso.

A team of television stars from the soap opera “Days of Our Lives” will face the Burbank Bluebirds in a softball game Sunday at 1 p.m. at Valley Park in Burbank. The Bluebirds are a seniors softball team and the event serves as their annual fund-raiser.
