Passenger Dies After Car Hits Pole
A man was killed and a woman seriously injured when their car sideswiped another vehicle and then crashed into the base of a concrete pole Saturday morning, police said.
Debra E. Prout, 25, of Garden Grove was airlifted to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana, where she was listed in critical condition, police said. Her male passenger, who was not identified, was taken to Brea Community Hospital, where he died.
The accident occurred at 7:52 a.m. as Prout was driving west on Lambert Road near Associated Road, police said. As she neared the intersection, Prout made a lane change to avoid traffic in front of her and struck the back of another vehicle.
Prout then lost control of her car and slammed into a concrete light pole, police said. The man, who apparently was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the car. The driver of the other vehicle, John T. Caklovic, 31, of West Covina, sustained minor injuries.
