One man was in custody Monday on suspicion of murder and another man was being sought after a confrontation in Long Beach that left two men dead.

Antonio Gama, 24, was booked at the Long Beach City Jail for murder in connection with the shooting death of Francisco Hernandez, also 24, said Long Beach Police Cpl. Wes Workman. Hernandez and Bernardino Ruedas, 28, got into a fight about 7:45 p.m. Sunday in front of a house on East 53rd Street, Workman said.

“Apparently, Hernandez stabbed Ruedas, and then Gama, a friend of Ruedas, shot Hernandez,” Workman said. Hernandez was taken to Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, where he died. About 90 minutes after the fight, Gama and another man took Ruedas, who was stabbed “multiple times,” to St. Francis Medical Center in Lynwood, Workman said. Ruedas died a short time later. Officers arrested Gama at the hospital, but the second man ran away, Workman said.
