West Hollywood : Task Force on Animals
The West Hollywood City Council on Monday approved the creation of a community animal-control task force.
The 11-member task force will bring representatives of local animal rights organizations and the county’s Animal Control Department together with veterinarians, breeders, city officials and residents to address a range of issues, including pet overpopulation.
The task force will review all city policies relating to animal regulation, including the city’s leash law, and will make recommendations to the City Council on how best to enforce municipal laws.
In addition, it will develop an education program to inform West Hollywood pet owners of the city’s animal regulations and of the options available for having pets neutered or spayed.
The city is now accepting applications from residents interested in joining the task force. The City Council will appoint task force representatives from those who apply.
The task force is expected to meet for the first time in mid-June. City officials anticipate that it will meet regularly for six months. After that, it will meet when issues arise.
