GOLF NCAA WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIPS : UCLA’s Erb Slips but Still Shares Lead

Christy Erb of UCLA maintained a share of the lead despite shooting a three-over-par 75 Friday in the third round of the NCAA women’s golf championships.

Anika Sorenstam of Arizona shot a 70 for an even-par 216 to tie Erb, who had a three-shot lead after the second round. Erb, a junior, played the front nine in even-par 36 but lost three strokes to par on the back nine.

Sorenstam, a freshman from Sweden, shot a 32 on the back nine. She began the day in seventh place, five shots behind Erb.

Kelly Robbins of Tulsa shot a 73 and was a shot behind the leaders. Illinois’ Renee Heiken, who shared the first-round lead with Erb, shot a 73 for 218.

UCLA maintained its two-stroke lead at 896 with one round remaining. San Jose State is second. Georgia is third at 910, followed by South Florida at 912, Arizona at 913 and Stanford at 919.
