Tujunga Junior High Damaged in Fire
Fire officials on Monday were investigating the cause of a blaze that caused about $300,000 in damage to Mt. Gleason Junior High School in Tujunga, authorities said.
The fire began in a teachers’ lounge about 10:45 p.m. Sunday and was extinguished about 30 minutes later, Los Angeles City Fire Department spokesman Michael Hallett said.
Hallett said firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading to an adjacent library, but many books were damaged by smoke and ash.
He said the fire caused about $150,000 damage to the building and another $150,000 to the contents. No one was injured.
