California Supt. of Banks James E. Gilleran was reappointed by Gov. Pete Wilson.

Gilleran, 58, who has been the state’s top banking regulator since 1989, has no term of office, serving at the pleasure of the governor. The position, which involves regulating 268 state-chartered banks and 150 other financial institutions, pays $99,805 a year.

A Republican from San Francisco, Gilleran is former president of the Commonwealth Group investment banking firm.
