Police closed off a city block in Santa Monica after a high-speed chase Thursday and used a canine unit to arrest a man suspected of stealing a sports car during a burglary last week.
After Los Angeles officers spotted the stolen Porsche Carrera on Temescal Canyon Road, they pursued it down Pacific Coast Highway before losing sight of the driver when he abandoned the car, along with a 9-millimeter Beretta pistol that apparently was also taken in the robbery, police said.
“He went right underneath the pier, where a street dead-ends into a new hotel, and he almost shortened that Porsche by several feet,” said Santa Monica Police Sgt. Bob Oliver.
After searching a construction site on Hollister Avenue, an LAPD dog sniffed out the suspect under some bushes in a nearby yard, to the applause of dozens of spectators. The suspect’s identity was not immediately available, police said.
