BOXING : Breland Wins Unanimous Decision
Mark Breland used an effective left jab and right uppercut against Henry Anaya and scored a lackluster but unanimous 10-round decision in a middleweight fight Monday night.
The win was Breland’s second in as many fights since moving up in weight class after losing the World Boxing Assn. welterweight title to Aaron Davis in July.
Breland (29-2-1) threw dozens of jabs and uppercuts against Anaya, but most seemed to lack power.
By the sixth round the crowd at the Meadowlands Convention Center was booing at the end of each round for lack of activity.
After the fight, Breland, who is again being trained by Emmanuel Stewart, claimed to have hurt his left wrist in the second round.
Anaya (17-4) retired after the fight.
Judges Vincent Rainone, John Riley and Frank Brunette gave Breland all 10 rounds, each scoring the fight 100-90.
Former Olympian Kelcie Banks was in control throughout the fight and won a 10-round decision over Tim Brooks at the Forum.
Banks, who weighed 134 pounds, won by scores of 97-93, 98-92 and 99-91.
Banks is 18-1-1 with 10 knockouts and Brooks is 13-8-1 with 11 knockouts.
