The nonprofit International Visitors Council of Los Angeles has elected Eagle Rock resident Howell Ellerman vice president of its governing board. The council arranges one-on-one meetings between professionals from abroad and Los Angeles residents. Ellerman, an Occidental College graduate, practices land use and redevelopment law.

Navajo textile authority Kathleen Whitaker debuts as curator of the Southwest Museum in Highland Park this week with the exhibit “Tradition in Transition: Papago Basketry, 1900-1925.” Whitaker, who holds a Ph.D. in anthropology from UCLA, was curator of the San Diego Museum of Man from 1975 to 1979 and then assistant professor of anthropology at Cal State San Bernardino and professor of anthropology at Crafton Hills College.

Augustine Martinez assumed the duties of vice president and general manager of Glendale-based Spanish-language television station KVEA/Channel 52 on Monday. Martinez, 38, joined the Telemundo flagship station in 1989 and was previously a vice president with KTTV/Channel 11. He will replace Stephen J. Levin, who becomes senior vice president and general manager of Telemundo’s WNJU/Channel 47, serving New York and New Jersey.
