Compton : 9-Member Commission on Youth Policies to Be Created

Share

The Compton City Council, by a unanimous vote Tuesday, gave final approval to the creation of a youth commission.

The commission will have nine members ages 11 to 17. Its job will be to make recommendations on city policies that affect young people, to serve as a forum for the exchange of ideas, and to conduct workshops on important issues facing the city’s youths.

Commission members, who will meet once a month, will be appointed by the council and will serve two-year terms. The members will elect their own officers. Commission members are expected to receive some monetary compensation, perhaps about $25 a month, City Clerk Charles Davis said. The council has not determined the amount of pay, nor has it appointed any commissioners yet.
