Klein Shares Win in Junior Golf Event

Emilee Klein of Studio City and partner Kelli Kuehne of Dallas cruised to a 10-stroke victory Thursday at the Big Red junior team golf championship at McKinney, Tex.

Klein and Kuehne finished with a five-over-par total of 293. They finished 10 shots ahead of Annie Deets of Lafayette, Ind., and Lisa Cornwell of Fayetteville, Ark.

The final round format consisted of team stroke play, in which both 18-hole scores counted for the team.

Former Washington State and Montclair Prep football player Tim Stallworth signed a one-year contract with the Denver Broncos.

To celebrate the beginning of the annual California Special Olympics, law enforcement officers will conduct a torch run that will pass through the San Fernando Valley.

The route will wind through Sun Valley, North Hollywood, Toluca Lake, Burbank and Glendale on Thursday. More than 100 athletes and 1,200 officers from throughout the state will participate, running a total of 1,000 miles.

Bob Farber, Cal Lutheran’s right fielder, has been selected to the NAIA Baseball All-American Scholar Athlete team. Farber led the Kingsmen with a .414 batting average. The psychology major has a 3.74 grade-point average.

Donnie Hill, a pitcher from Westlake High, was selected in the 30th round of last week’s amateur baseball draft by the Philadelphia Phillies. Hill was 2-7 this year but had an earned-run average of 1.77.
