The Dodgers will hold their annual Old-Timers Day on Sunday, but they will have a hard time matching Friday’s visitors at Dodger Stadium. Those in attendance included President Bush and baseball Commissioner Fay Vincent. The president visited the Dodger locker room and Manager Tom Lasorda. Vincent, out to watch batting practice, chatted with Gary Carter, Orel Hershiser and Lasorda, among others. A spokesman for Vincent said it was a “happy coincidence” the president and commissioner were both in attendance. Vincent has been in town for the owners’ meetings, and will attend games at San Diego today and San Francisco Sunday.

Ramon Martinez goes for a league-high 11th victory tonight. He won his 10th game June 10, the fastest Dodger to reach that total in 16 years. Don Sutton reached 10 victories on June 3, 1975. Last season, when Martinez won 20 games, he won his 10th on July 13. . . . Infielder Lenny Harris, who suffered a bruised knuckle when hit by a pitch Thursday in Pittsburgh, was back in the lineup Friday.

Cardinal rookie Bernard Gilkey, a starting outfielder most of the season, was put on the 15-day disabled list after injuring his right thumb while trying to make a catch in San Diego. Gilkey stumbled over a bullpen mound while trying to catch a drive that went for a double by Benito Santiago, and X-rays revealed bone chips in the joint. Infielder Luis Alicea was called up to fill the roster spot, and veterans Milt Thompson and Rex Hudler will replace Gilkey.
