Baby Killed by Dogs Identified

An infant girl who was fatally mauled by two malamute dogs was identified by the Los Angeles County coroner’s office Sunday as Shayna Marlow of Woodland Hills.

The 7-month-old child died about 6 p.m. Saturday, shortly after she was attacked outside a house she was visiting in the 22600 block of Clarendon Street in Woodland Hills.

It remained unclear Sunday why the child was at the house or how she came in contact with the dogs, who belonged to the homeowner.

The animals were quarantined pending tests for rabies. Animal regulation officials said the dogs, a male and a female, will be kept at the West Valley Animal Control Center for at least 10 days. Officials then will decide whether to return the dogs to their owner or destroy them.

Neighbors said the dogs had lived at the house about 12 years and were well behaved. Their owner, Bob Lewis, kept the animals chained when they were in the front yard and they often played with Lewis’ three children, neighbor Marie Laumaillet said.

“He raised three children and those dogs never did anything,” she said.
